Many cows still in danger zone around Mt. Merapi

Harian Padang.com-More than 55,000 cows have yet to be evacuated from 20-kilometer danger zone radius from the troubling Mt. Merapi, an official says.

Most of them are sprawled in farm areas, like Sleman, Klaten, Magelang and Boyolali.

Division head of Merapi victim identification Ida Tjahajati said that originally there were a total of 61,884 cows in the 20-kilometer radius.

“We have only evacuated 6,787 cows so far. There are still 55,097,” Ida was quoted by kompas.com.

Ida said that huge number of cows left in the danger zone was among reasons why many residents whose cows yet to be evacuated often ignore the government's warning and keep entering the zone to feed their cattle.
